Tip: connecting the Unisenza Plus smart heating controls and app

Smart heating controls are a great way to create future-proof HVAC systems. Especially the possibility to monitor and control them via a matching smartphone app is an added value for many. The Unisenza Plus smart controls app is designed for optimal user comfort. Yet we gather from customer feedback that sometimes it takes some effort to create an account or connect to the app. We are happy to offer a few tips to facilitate the installation and commissioning.

Smart heating controls & frequency compatibility

When analysing the cases in which customers are unable to connect the Unisenza Plus products and app, we found that the issue is commonly due to frequency compatibility issues. Smart appliances and products often struggle to connect to home Wi-Fi networks due to the Wi-Fi routers and their operation. Most Wi-Fi routers offer both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Our Unisenza Plus app and products, however, only connect to the 2.4 GHz band.

In general, it will suffice to allocate the right frequency to the product. You can do so by changing your router settings to 2.4 GHz only. Please follow your manufacturer’s instructions for this.

Connecting smart heating controls

Of course we realise that an issue can have different causes and an appropriate solution may differ from one installation to another. That is why we would like to suggest a few more steps to follow in any case when a connection problem with the Unisenza Plus smart heating controls and app arises.

  • Make sure that your smartphone is using the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi frequency to add the device. Check if the 2.4GHz frequency and the 5 GHz frequency share the same Wi-Fi account. If they do, it is best to allocate them to different accounts and change to the 2.4 GHz frequency during network configuration.
  • Check if the router has the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) enabled.
  • Check if the Wi-Fi encryption is WPA2 (see router instruction manual).
  • In case you are using iOS 14 or above, ensure that the app has local network access as well as wireless date permission.
  • If the router is provided by the internet service provider, compatibility issues may arise due to certain functionalities imposed by the provider. For example, we know the BT smart hub, provided by British telecom, is popular in UK. However this sometimes prevents the connection of the Unisenza Plus Gateway. To connect it, it is sufficient to disable the smart home setup wizard.

These tips should help to ensure a smooth commissioning of all Unisenza Plus products. Should you still encounter any difficulties, don’t hesitate to visit the Unisenza Plus support page or contact our experts for tailored advice.
